the artist’s statement

My work depicts especially the painting of human figures. For some years I portrayed the real in painting, through sessions of live modelling, but now I also use models that I find on the Internet. In this trajectory there remains the interest in an erotic situation and desire in the density of the image.

Differently from the live model, in utilizing the reference of the photograph, I discover another landscape of the body and eroticism, which is less mediated by the world of contracts. The web enables us to see any figure, experience any kind of sex. The erotic image in art is the overflowing of the boundaries between format and content. In my pictorial construction, I try to maintain the provocative stimulus found in the photographic index.

From the photo, there arises a new concern about the image. There is an inner confusion of genders, our condition is androgynous and there is no fixed pole.

Talking about Brazilian eroticism one is risking falling into the pastiche of cliches. Brazilian sensuality might be a stereotype. On the other hand, Carnival and Tropicalism establish a process of productive orgies, where social groups identify with one another; they move around with the intensity in the common celebration. Copacabana and Ipanema are trendy districts in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where slums and luxury condos live side by side, staring semi-naked at each other.

I utilize common materials and pictorial techniques, and I also develop my language on the tension applied on the limits of the support, seeking the environmental presence of painting and experiences in other poetic media.
